FAQ

A. Eligibility for the Program

1. Do I need game development experience to apply?

Not at all, our editor has robust documentation for data and scripting APIs. Experience modding games (such as Warcraft 3, StarCraft II, DotA2) or with Lua and similar scripting languages are bonuses.

2. How do you choose which game projects to fund?

In terms of gameplay, we're looking for casual portrait games that are exciting, creative, and fun. Beyond core game concepts, we're looking for ambitious game devs and designers with whom we can build a long-term relationship with; the ideal candidate would be interested in shipping multiple successful games over a number of years.

3. Can I apply without a metagame design or monetization?

Absolutely. Our team has a wealth of experience and knowledge and are committed to directly supporting projects in these areas.

4. Can we apply as a team?

Absolutely. That said, one team member must be designated as team lead and be responsible for weekly milestones and payment distribution.

5. What are the eligibility requirements?

You must be over 18 years of age.

B. About the Editor

1. What is the Project ROC editor?

The Project ROC editor is a powerful, cross-platform game creation tool set inspired by classic RTS game editors. Here's quick peek at the editor in action, making a quick rocket-dodging mini-game in just a few minutes.

2. What kinds of games can the Project ROC editor make?

The engine is suitable for many genres of games (and will likely help create new ones). While the engine excels at RTS and action games, it’s suitable for just about anything that’s not a first person shooter.

3. Why should I use the Project ROC editor versus Unity, Unreal, etc?

We supply the assets, networking, technical features, and publishing services to allow solo developers to create and ship cross-platform games. If you have a larger team and funding, then another engine may be more suitable for you.

4. Can I use custom assets in my game?

You can use customized assets for in-game UI. For other assets, we’ll evaluate the art and sound needs of each partnered creator and offer support accordingly.
